How to Visit Old Sarum
Old Sarum is reachable by public transport as well as by car. Buses (run by Salisbury Reds) run from all over Salisbury, with the nearest stop to Old Sarum being Old Castle. From the city centre heading away from the city, the available buses departing from Blue Boar Roar are Activ8, X4 and X5. There is also the PR11, which departs at the bottom of Castle Street. The Stonehenge Tour bus departing from Salisbury Train Station also makes stops at Old Sarum.
For those driving there is parking available near the entrance, this is free for English Heritage Members and costs £4 for non-members. Old Sarum is located on the A345, and is clearly marked and signposted. It is about a one hour walk from the city centre, and they also have bike racks for cyclists!
There are several ways to make it to Old Sarum but it will be best to organize depending on how you are travelling around Salisbury and where you are coming from. Details on the bus journeys and all other directional information can be found on the English Heritage directions page.
When is Old Sarum Open
The main grounds to Old Sarum are open every day, with walking access the to ramparts, outer bailey and cathedral ruins being available 24/7. Driving access is available nearly every day, closed only on Christmas Eve to Boxing Day. This same schedule applies to the Medieval Castle ruins.
29 March - 25 October: Old Sarum is Open 10am to 5pm every day
26 October - 27 March: Old Sarum is open 10am to 4pm every day
24 December - 26 December: Old Sarum is closed

Tickets to Old Sarum
The ramparts, outer bailey and access to the cathedral ruins are available for free, but tickets are required to access the remains of the medieval castle. Tickets purchased online and in advance come at a discounted rate of 15% off, reaching a price of just under £7. There are various price adjustments for tickets including for children, students, concessions, and family tickets. Tickets are available for purchase on site and day of, but they will be at the full rate. Book directly on the English Heritage website to avoid any scams or potential upcharges. English Heritage members visit the castle for free, as do local residents.
